Beaches, sea and relaxation: the dream locations of the Tyrrhenian area

Scilla Palmi Favazzina, an itinerary of beauty dedicated to the jewels of Reggio

Scilla Palmi and Favazzina, passing through Cannitello. Feel like a holiday? The Tyrrhenian area of Reggio Calabria offers a spectacle of nature and much more, all waiting to be discovered. Here are the most suggestive beaches and seaside spots that are a must on the list of places to visit.

  1. Cannitello. In the hamlet of Villa San Giovanni there is a seaside village on the Reggio coast that leaves you breathless. The houses face directly onto the beach and from this angle you can enjoy a breathtaking view stretching from Capo Vaticano to the Eolie. The Stretto di Messina can be contemplated in all its natural beauty, especially when the fascinating Fata Morgana phenomenon occurs.

2. Scilla. A paradise a stone's throw from the city, a unique diamond between a breathtaking sea and traditions that recall the legendary story of Scilla and Cariddi. Beyond its history, Scilla is an ideal place to enjoy an inviting swordfish sandwich or some refreshing granitas. We recommend visiting the Castello Ruffo and taking a walk on the beach of Marina Grande.

3. Favazzina. It is located in the hamlet of Scilla and its sea stretches out over the Stretto di Messina. Besides the breathtaking beaches, locals choose it as an ideal destination to savour granitas and arancini in good company. Unmissable are the boat, canoe or mountain-bike excursions to contemplate the whole surrounding area. Famous is the Swordfish Festival in the nearby Chianalea, which falls in the first week of August.

4.Bagnara. It is the location par excellence dedicated to swordfish fishing. But Bagnara is not only sea: besides the historic centre we have the Porelli district and the Marinella. Among the beauties are the Norman Tower and the small tourist harbour. There are many hamlets rich in history and traditions: Solano, Pellegrina famous for its bread and Ceramida for its ceramics.

5.Palmi. Numerous stunning beaches where you can spend moments of total relaxation. Spiaggia della Tonnara with a path almost two kilometres long, here stands the famous Ulivo rock. To the north of the Costa Viola there is the Marinella beach, a blue sea kisses an untouched area. We also recommend taking a dip in the waters that bathe the Pietrenere beach.
